How do you feel to be saying goodbye to your studies and putting on your white coat? Jasmine: Thank you so much! To say that I am elated doesn’t even scratch the surface as to how happy and thankful I am to finally graduate. It is bittersweet for sure because I have made some wonderful friends in medical school and soon we will all be parting ways, but there is so much excitement and anticipation as this next chapter unfolds! The amazing thing about medicine is that it is always changing, so if I want to continue to be the best doctor I can be, I will always be a â€Å"student† in my field. That being said, I am excited to trade the all-night study sessions with overnight calls and busy nights on the labor and delivery floor. I’m so ready to be a real doctor! Jasmine: Sure, the residency application is an online service (ERAS) that encompasses all the programs in the country – it reminded me of the common application for college. It is composed of your USMLE transcript, medical school transcript, CV, personal statement, and letters of recommendation. The fee scale is correlated to how many programs you decide to send your application to. In mid-September, the application is open for the programs to view applicants, and within a week or two, you start getting emails inviting you to interview. It is all very exciting and moves very fast! The biggest challenge I faced during the process was choosing to continue to breastfeed during interviews. I actually ended up bringing my kids along with me for all but two of the interviews (I went on 11 total). My youngest child was 3-6 months old during the whole span of interviewing. The interview days were long, usually beginning around 8 or 9AM and ending between 1 or 2PM, which really wasn’t much longer than my days on the medicine wards right before interviewing began, so my body was prepared. Overall, things went well and I was able to successful continue breastfeeding, but it took so much planning – making sure we were staying in hotels with in-room fridges, packing adequate pumping supplies, making sure my chest looked â€Å"modest† in interview attire, etc. Oh, and I now know the protocol for transporting breast milk on an airplane, if anyone is interested†¦haha. Jeremy Bentham is considered the founder of utilitarian thought and stated that that human beings resolve their ethical questions in light of maximizing the amount of pleasure they experience while minimizing the amount of pain.He considered ethically good conduct as that which expands an individuals as well as a communitys liberty by adding to the sum total of its pleasure (what later was termed maximizing the Greatest Happiness Factor [GHF]). Conduct is unethical, then, because it limits an individuals as well as a communitys liberty and general welfare by subtracting from the GHF. So if we are to use the utilitarianism theory in regards to the legalization of marijuana, then one could argue that those who are opposed are not being ethical since they are not taking into consideration the greatest happiness factor for those who like to use the drug. While the debate on the damage that use of marijuana may cause, it would medically be useful to those in need so we are still being unethical from a utilitarian standpoint regardless of the fact that the drug is currently considered illegal. â€Å"Relativism is the idea that ones beliefs and values are understood in terms of ones society, culture, or even ones own individual values† (Moser, 2010). In our society today the use of marijuana for either recreation or medical is frowned upon.There are issues about the harmfulness of the drug and what long term effects the drug could create in addition to the argument that it leads to other more harmful drug use. We are constantly told that drugs are bad and we need to â€Å"just say no†. Our children participate in drug prevention at early stages of their education. They are taught to be afraid and to be friends with those who participate in illegal drugs. There is no evidence that addiction to drugs is favorably regarded in any society or culture, but the status accorded the addict varies markedly.In the United States he has been defined as a criminal and stereotyped as a â€Å"dope fiend. † In much of Europe, on the other hand, the addict is regarded as an unfortunate person whose problem is primarily psychological and medical. Having stated that great differences exist in cultural orientations to specific drugs or drug effects, we are, however, far from being able to explain them. There are legal substances such as alcohol and cigarettes that do far more damage to a person’s health yet are legal to consume if a person is of age and takes responsibility for using them. The economic effect by the legalization of marijuana can benefit the government because it would generate greater tax income for our country, which would be excellent for our economy.In the United States every year an estimated $7 billion is spent on marijuana (www. drugabuse. gov). If marijuana were taxed at 7% there would be an extra tax income of at least $49 million. Marijuana becoming legalized would also benefit the United States because it would reduce the crowding in jails. Having assessed the situation in Iberia and the Umayyad attack on Aquitaine, Charles came to believe that a professional army, rather than raw conscripts, was needed to defend the realm from invasion. To raise the money necessary to build and train an army that could withstand the Muslim horsemen, Charles began seizing Church lands, earning the ire of the religious community. In 732, the Umayyads moved north again, led by Emir Abdul Rahman Al Ghafiqi. Commanding approximately 80,000 men, he plundered Aquitaine. As Abdul Rahman sacked Aquitaine, Odo fled north to seek aid from Charles. This was granted in exchange for Odo recognizing Charles as his overlord. Mobilizing his army, Charles moved to intercept the Umayyads. Battle of Tours In order to avoid detection and allow Charles to select the battlefield, the approximately 30,000 Frankish troops moved over secondary roads toward the town of Tours. For the battle, Charles selected a high, wooded plain which would force the Umayyad cavalry to charge uphill. Forming a large square, his men surprised Abdul Rahman, forcing the Umayyad emir to pause for a week to consider his options. On the seventh day, after gathering all of his forces, Abdul Rahman attacked with his Berber and Arab cavalry. In one of the few instances where medieval infantry stood up to cavalry, Charles troops defeated repeated Umayyad attacks. As the battle raged, the Umayyads finally broke through the Frankish lines and attempted to kill Charles. He was promptly surrounded by his personal guard, who repulsed the attack. As this was occurring, scouts that Charles had sent out earlier were infiltrating the Umayyad camp and freeing prisoners. Victory Believing that the plunder of the campaign was being stolen, a large part of the Umayyad army broke off the battle and raced to protect their camp. While attempting to stop the apparent retreat, Abdul Rahman was surrounded and killed by Frankish troops. Briefly pursued by the Franks, the Umayyad withdrawal turned into a full retreat. Charles reformed his troops expecting another attack, but to his surprise, it never came as the Umayyads continued their retreat all the way to Iberia. In 736, he led his forces in reclaiming Montfrin, Avignon, Arles, and Aix-en-Provence.  These campaigns marked the first time he integrated heavy cavalry with stirrups into his formations.   Though he won a string of victories, Charles elected not to attack Narbonne due to the strength of its defenses and the casualties that would be incurred during any assault.  As the campaigning concluded, King  Theuderic IV died. Though he had the power to appoint a new King of the Franks, Charles did not do so and left the throne vacant rather than claim it for himself. From 737 until his death in 741, Charles focused on the administration of his realm and expanding his influence. This included subduing Burgundy in 739. These years also saw Charles lay the groundwork for his heirs succession following his death. Death Charles Martel died on October 22, 741. His lands were divided between his sons Carloman and Pippin III. The latter would father the next great Carolingian leader, Charlemagne. Kurban Bairam is a religious holiday of a sacrifice. It begins in 70 days after Ramazan and lasts for 3 days. Each Moslem must kill a ram and distribute its meat among poor people Uraza-bairam is celebrated at the end of a 30-day fast in Ramadan. Having tried sweets in the morning, Muslims go to the mosque, and in the evening arrange the family feast. Since 1992 two religious holidays Kurban-bairam and Christmas are included in Tatarstan's calendar of public holidays. It is impossible to imagine cultural life of Kazan without the Day of the City, which is celebrated on August 30. On this day, cities and villages of the republic flourish, all multinational Tatarstan people get together to see the festival open-air performance with historical customs and traditions, horse races, national wrestling, ensembles of ancient instruments and folklore groups performances. The holiday is ended with a big colorful firework. The Republic of Tatarstan enjoys the richest traditional and cultural heritage. Today the life of Republic combines both ancient traditions and the present. It is a memory of the past and aspiration to the future.

What Is Spark Ignition

The term spark ignition is used to describe the system with which the air-fuel mixture inside the combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine is ignited by a spark. The  process uses an electrical field induced in a magnet or coil to build many thousands of volts that are collapsed via a timed circuit. The resulting surge of current travels along a wire and terminates at the spark plug inside the combustion chamber. An electrical spark occurs as the charge tries to jump the precision gap at the tip of the spark plug at exactly the moment a precisely metered mixture of fuel and air — developed through atomization — has been thoroughly compressed in the combustion chamber. The resulting controlled explosion delivers the power to turn the reciprocating mass inside the engine. Used in Gasoline Engines Due to the nature of gasoline as a fuel, all gasoline engines use spark ignition. Spark ignitions are colloquially known as petrol engines in the United Kingdom while called gasoline engines in the States.  Diesel engines, on the other hand, use only  compression ignition  to begin their power process. Spark ignition typically utilizes two- or four-stroke methods for converting gasoline to power. The first stroke, the intake, pushes the piston down, pressurizing the fuel-air mixture in the combustion chamber. This is immediately followed by the compression stroke where the piston compresses this mixture at the top of the cylinder where it is ignited by the spark ignition. Then, the power stroke moves the engine —typically two rotations on the power belt. Finally, the exhaust stroke releases the leftover gasses remaining in the chamber, typically exiting through the tailpipe.   Advantages and Disadvantages Gasoline engines — which use spark ignition — are typically considered to give off lower emissions and provide higher efficiency and performance capacities than diesel engines. Typically more lightweight, quieter and cheaper as well, these are the most common type of engine on the American market. Along with the added benefit of recent consumer gasoline prices becoming far less expensive than that of diesel, its much easier to find gasoline across the U.S. Gasoline engines are also far less likely to break down in the cold because they do not require a pressurization or heating of the air-fuel mixture to ignite the spark and in turn the engine.   However, these engines also come with their fair share of disadvantages. Typically spark ignition vehicles require more regular maintenance than diesel engines. Gasoline vehicles have significantly shorter lifespans than compression ignition autos. Furthermore, an incorrect mixture of fuels — such as the wrong caliber biofuel — may result in irreparable  damage to the engine.   Recently, with the advent of zero and partial zero emissions vehicles, gasoline engines can yield entirely no harmful emissions and maintain even better gas mileage than their diesel counterparts. Still, its the electric automobile thats truly the wave of the eco-conscious auto industry. In coming years, rising availability and lower prices may drive even the most eco-friendly gasoline engines off the road.
